Absolutely. They’re great in the tropics. I use my sandals in the snow too! Just cover them up with thermal booties for warmth and they can dry out in front of the fire if they get wet.

the keen commuters are not sandals any more, they are now shoes with holes. small rocks and debris entering them are effectively trapped, so you need to take a break regularly to empty them.

and the exustar clones look extremely cheap.

why cant the market produce some decent alternatives? early spd keens were nice in their look and function, but have been reported to break easily.

for hot days i keep using a pair of meshed shimano spd shoes, but really long for proper sandals.

Dodgy looking website, but some people on a cycling forum in the UK ordered them and received them after about a month or two. http://www.beautywebsites.top/generictype-c-31_32/shimano-2017-mens-spd-cycling-sandal-shsd5-p-18259.html I’ve just ordered a pair to test them out. Worst case in January I speak to my credit card company and get my £17 back.

Just found a review on them describing that apparently they would not be the choice for long touring: http://europacycle.com/shimano-sd5-sandal-review/

Interesting to hear they broke down. I haven’t had any issues with my soles on either of my Shimano models after 100,000km in them!

I don’t use anything else for touring. 🙂

Which model Shimano sandals are you using? My favourite overshoes are made by Sugoi, but I haven’t really tried anything else in recent times!
