Thanks for the information! I appreciate your advice and will use it to find a good learning bike. Also, I aspire to ride well enough to justify owning a Co-Motion Tandem in the future!!

I am really looking forward to the challenge of learning to ride with my husband!!!!

Katie

Hi Katie

I would recommend a tandem with:
– Flat wide handlebars
– 26″ or 700c wheels with wide tyres
– Disc brakes
– A wide gear range

Any tandem manufacturer with a long history will make a stiff, sturdy and safe bike you will love. I ride a Co-Motion (USA made) and think it’s brilliant! The Co-Motion Periscope Scout is $3495 complete.

I’d recommend calling some tandem shops in Des Moines or Kansas to discuss what they’d recommend, they probably have cheaper brands available too. Here are your closest Co-Motion dealers: http://co-motion.com/index.php/dealers

Neither one of us has biked in years; but would like to learn to ride tandem and I am looking for a beginner bike (new or used) and don’t know where to start. I have been reading a lot about tandem riding and I am getting lost in all the nuances (ie; # of gears, type of frame, brands, forks…). I am hoping somwone can suggest a brand, frame type or wheel/tire type for beginners. We live in Omaha, NE and there are many bike trails, both paved and unpaved.
